Ecotoxicology is a multidisciplinary field that draws from knowledge and techniques in the fields of ecology and toxicology to study the effects of toxic chemicals at an ecological level. Ecotoxicology looks at the impacts of contaminants including pesticides on individual organisms, populations, natural communities, and ecosystems. An ecosystem like ponds, rivers, deserts, grasslands, forests is also affected by pesticides. Pesticides affect directly far from the site of application. Pesticides and contaminants affect more than the populations of animals and plants that make up a community. They also affect processes like nutrient cycling or the formation of soil.
